Provenance and Sources

The original image was 16x24 in., done in ink on paper, created ca. 1974.  For many years it hung on the wall of a friend’s house.  Eventually, the acetate it was wrapped in began to disintegrate and it was put into a closet. After many years, the artist discovered it while visiting the friend, and photographed it, below left.

The image was put into Adobe Illustrator. Because it had a well-defined geometry, it was redrawn, and a hint of depth was added.

Once the image was reconstituted the artist experimented with a limited-edition silk screen print, below right, prior to giclee printing.

The imagery suggests multiple sources well known to the artist, such as the Wizard of Oz, photographs of nuclear explosions, Navajo sand paintings, 1960s psychedelia and structural steel fabrication (the artist worked in a shipyard in 1974).
